English for Kids: The Gingerbread Man
Once upon a time, a little old woman and a little old man lived in a cottage. One day they were very hungry, and so they decided to bake a gingerbread man. They used icing sugar for eyes and a mouth, and cherries for buttons and put him into the oven to bake.

As soon as the old woman opened the oven, the gingerbread man jumped out and ran through an open window.
The gingerbread man cried, "Don't eat me!"
The woman chased after him and yelled, "Stop!"
"Run, run as fast you can! You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!" he said, and continued running.

He ran down the road towards the river. Along the way, he met many hungry animals.
A pig yelled, "Stop! Stop! I want to eat you!"
The gingerbread man continued running and shouted, "Run, run as fast you can! You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!"
A cow shouted, "Stop! Stop! I want to eat you!"
And again, the gingerbread man continued running and shouted, "Run, run as fast you can! You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!"
The cow chased the gingerbread man, along with the pig and the little old woman. But the gingerbread man was too fast for them. It was not long before the gingerbread man met a horse.
"Stop! Stop! I want to eat you, little man!" said the horse.
"Run, run as fast you can! You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!" laughed the gingerbread man.
The horse and the cow and the pig and the little old lady and the little old man ran after the gingerbread man. The gingerbread man laughed and laughed until he came to a river. He was trapped.

"Oh no! They will catch me. How can I cross the river?" asked the gingerbread man.
Suddenly a fox appeared, and said, "I can help you cross the river. Jump onto my tail and I will swim you across."
The gingerbread man did not trust the fox, but he was desperate. "You won't eat me, will you?" asked the gingerbread man.
The fox replied, "Of course not."
So the gingerbread man climbed onto the fox's tail.

Soon the gingerbread man began to get wet. "I'm getting wet," said the gingerbread man.
"Climb onto my back," said the fox.
The gingerbread man climbed onto the fox's back, and after some time the fox said, "You are heavy and I am tired. I am sinking. Get onto my nose or you will get wet."
The gingerbread man climbed onto the fox's nose. The fox quickly tossed the gingerbread man into the air and opened his mouth, and snap that was the end of the gingerbread man.
